San Simeon, CA (September 13, 2009) - Nearly 1,500 people took part in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle, a 100-mile cycling fundraiser from Carmel to San Simeon, on Saturday, September 12. The Challenge raised close to $4 million in total donations for Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities..First Lady of California Maria Shriver served as Honorary Chairperson of the Challenge, which also featured alternate 62, 35 and 15-mile routes; tandem races; a 5K run and a 3K walk. Several celebrities and professional cyclists, including ?Access Hollywood? co-host Nancy O'Dell; actresses Maureen McCormick and Lisa Rinna; actors David Caruso and Verne Troyer; Miss California 2009 Tami Farrell; Miss USA 2008 Crystle Stewart; Olympic gold medalist Dan O'Brian; singer-songwriter Siedah Garrett; and members of Teams Garmin, Jelly Belly Specialized and TIBCO, also participated in the event..
